Program Area: DPN serves the Western Region of Colorado Workforce Center, including Montrose, Delta, Gunnison, Hinsdale , San Miguel & Ouray Counties.
 
Program Description/Service Offered:

Disability Program Navigators guide Workforce Center staff in helping people with disabilities access and navigate the complex provisions of various programs that impact their ability to gain/retain employment.

What does a Disability Program Navigator do?

  • Assist staff working with individuals with disabilities to secure and access services and supports needed to obtain and maintain employment.
  • Build infrastructure at the Colorado Workforce Center to serve persons with disabilities
  • Troubleshoot problem areas through instruction and advocacy
  • Serves as resource/referral in assisting referred clients with disabilities to secure and access services and supports needed in order to stabilize and remove barriers to obtaining and/or maintaining employment.
  • Work closely with and provide referrals to appropriate programs relating to Social Security benefits, such as Benefit Planners and advocacy programs.
  • Facilitate appropriate referrals within the Workforce Center and to community partners, agencies and service organizations.
  • Conduct outreach to underserved groups, peer mentoring programs, and community service agencies and organizations.
  • Conduct outreach to community employers, providing information and promoting the hiring of persons with disabilities.
  • Provide guidance to Workforce Center staff to utilize assistive technology.
  • Provide information on resources, including linkages to specific services within the community
